Recent Readings

Recently I've been reading some books from our midwife, Valerie.  I know I say it all the time but we just love her.  She's the best! 

I have not read all of the books completely because I read enough to know if I thought we should get the books or not. One of those books was Back to Eden by Jethro Kloss.  This book was awesome in that he teaches you how God intended us to deal with illnesses.  He talks about how most of the time, our diseases/conditions can be dealt with by the creation God has given us.  I really hope to get this book in the future.  

The other book that I read completely is Male Practice by Dr. Robert S. Mendelsohn.  Wow was that a great read.  It made me angry, in a good way.  Although written in 1982, I think there are so absolutely critical lessons we can take away from that book. Unfortunately I already gave it back to our midwife or I would have quoted some of the sections.  I am not one to read "science" type books very often, but I couldn't put this one down.  It was so good and so informative. 

I've also spent some time reading up on various topics from the website Mothering.com.  It's been so fun to do so.  You should check it out!  I'm not sure I'd try it but I read this interesting article about using seashells in your bra instead of nursing pads basically. 

And then there's this fascinating one about how baby's already know how to breastfeed. 

And now that I've finished reading the books that were more "required reading,"  I have finally started reading Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy.  I got it for my birthday but had been trying to get my "baby" reading in first.  It's so good! I'm only 20 pages in but am thoroughly enjoying it.

Twitter

Recently, I have discovered the wonderfulness that is Twitter.  In the past few weeks, I have been reading more from my favorite Pastors, learning from wonderful people in the handmade community, and being encouraged by other Christians I find on Twitter (usually small business owners).  I am so blessed.  I never knew what a great resource Twitter could be.  I would like to share some of my new favorites with you.

Then today I found another new favorite: The Vintage Pearl.  If I were infinitely wealthy (Yes, I realize that the love of money is the root of all evil) I would probably want one of everything in this shop.  Best of all.  These ladies are Christians who give back to the One Who gave them Everything! :) :D  I seriously can't wait to have a family so that I can have this piece:  our family tree.  It was love at first sight.  And guess who I thought of when I saw this one.  LOVE that shop :).

And today while I was busy being home sick, I found a new favorite blog to follow.  (I got sick last night in a different way and ended up taking the day off).   This one amazes me with all the talent on it. These are just SOME of my new favorites.  Oh and I finished up Left Behind today.  Well, the first book of the series that is.  I love reading and it's sooo nice to have something to do while you're sick.  I got sick again tonight but I am feeling much better, and I think I will be back at work tomorrow.  Just hope there are no more trips to the porcelain throne :(.  Please pray I get better soon.  I don't want to miss prayer meeting tomorrow.  It's such an encouragement to me.  And I really don't want to miss youth group.  No more sickies!!!!

Reading

Lately I've been reading a lot more since I've decided that I need to spend my time more on the things of God.  I have read in the last two weeks:
Called Out by Janet Boynes - A woman who God called out of homosexuality and her story of how He saved her.
D.C. Talk & Voice of the Martyrs - Jesus Freaks; Martyrs - Heart wrenching stories of men and women who were willing to give up their lives rather than denounce their Lord Jesus.  This book was soooooooo encouraging.  If God calls us to the missions field I'm ready to go now.  I don't know that I was before this book but now I will be ready if and when He calls.

I've started:
D.C. Talk & Voice of the Martyrs - Jesus Freaks II; Revolutionaries - Great book that also kinda follows along with the first one although these stories aren't necessarily about those who died for their faith but they do live for Christ and know that their lives may be at stake.
Left Behind - Lehaye & Jenkins - A fictional account of what will happen when Christ comes back to rapture His church and what will happen to those that are "left behind."   Great stuff there.  I wouldn't be surprised if Christ comes back in the next five years.  And boy will I be excited to go home with Him.  We're just strangers in this land anyway.

I'm hoping to finish the two books that I started this week and get started reading some other books too.  We have so many great books, I just need to find the time to read them.  That means spending more time reading books and less time reading online.

Although, I have been having quiet times in the mornings as well where I listen to the Scriptures on Biblegateway.com.  Max McLean has an awesome dramatic reading of the Scriptures and I'm happy it's him that's saying all the hard to pronounce names and not me.  It's been awesome though because I normally read the New International Version of the Bible (more readable in my opinion), but I've been listening to the King James Version.  I've found that listening to the KJV is easier for me than reading it.  I'm getting so much more out of it by listening.  It's proving true what Romans 10:17 says
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (KJV) (emphasis added)
