Another year older, and hopefully wiser

As I reflect on my birthday I think about some of the big changes that have come through this year.

In December we lost our precious girl, Jubilee Belle.  I miss her often and though I don't cry as often and it is easier to remember that she is with Jesus and doing better than I am, it's still difficult every once in a while. I see Zoe playing with her baby doll constantly and can't help but think, she should be playing with a real live baby instead. However, God saw fit that Jubilee join Him instead and we rest in that.

We've been able to use Jubilee's death as a witness many times in the last year.  Sometimes with family, sometimes with friends, and most often with the boys.  I've been able to talk to the boys about the importance of staying strong when they want to collapse and doing what they need to do even when it's hard sometimes.  I've stressed that the best way they can care for someone who is hurt back home is to work on getting their life in order while they are here. Ironically, my emotions have sometimes taught our youth to be empathetic.  They will often ask what is wrong if I'm on the verge of tears.  Not that I do it often but when I do it is good to see they are learning empathy.

It took a few months, but we found out in June that we are expecting again, and what a blessing that is!  I'm so looking forward to baby #3.  My biggest struggle is not to worry about the birth.  I'm trying to just trust that Jesus will provide the strength I need to trust Him despite my temptation to doubt.  Things are going well so far with this pregnancy for which I'm very thankful.  I can't wait to meet our little one this March!  It's hard to believe that I've been pregnant 3 times in 3 years.  I'm so thankful for the opportunity.

We moved yet again this year, another amazing opportunity!  We are working for a new Director who is a much better fit for us.  Instead of 8 boys, we now raise 10 and they are WAY more immature because they are the younger kids.  They want to do things with us though and that is a blessing.  Unfortunately the program is run so tightly that it's hard to do a lot of the fun things we would like to do with them.  We have to conduct three one-hour groups a week plus all of our normal stuff, it cuts out a lot of the time we would have for playing games and doing projects.

My husband had a "definitely-not-30-party".  I'm so blessed by having my husband.  He treats me so well and I'm very thankful he's willing to clean.  Haha it's probably my least favorite thing ever but I've been much better about it.  He's been very supportive through all of the rough times this year.  In fact, he's supported me in starting my own business.

I've been wanting to be a Compassionate Entrepreneur with Trades of Hope since Zoe was born.  We never had the funds to do so and so when an opportunity presented itself, I'm so glad we were able to say, "YES!"  The heart of this organization is what always kept it in my mind.  The fact that they are changing one of their taglines from "Shop. Host. Join" to "Join. Host. Shop" says a lot about the mission of TOH.  My trainer told me that we have many more groups coming to TOH saying that they have heard of how much TOH has helped others that they are hoping to sell their goods with TOH also.  Unfortunately, with less than 1,000 CE's nationwide, TOH has had to turn down some of these groups.  So I'm so thankful to be working with a company that wants to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus.

Those are the biggest changes we've experienced this year.  We pray that Jesus keeps working to keep our hearts turned toward Him and helping us to trust Him every step of the way.

I leave you with a cute video of our precious girl.  (Well, I suppose I should leave the "cute" adjective out, that's for you to decide.) StumbleUpon

A family photoshoot

Thanks to my mom-in-love we did 6 month family photos last Sunday. We had planned to go to the Wintergreen gorge for pictures but it rained too much.  It was POURING so we decide to take photos inside at PSB.  It turned out to be a fun afternoon.

And at the end we got some nice weather.

I'm so thankful lately for the Sabbaths that Aaron, Zoe & I have been enjoying the last few weeks.  We;ve been trying to use our Sundays to focus more on the Lord.  Jesus tells us to seek first His Kingdom & His righteousness.  That is what Aaron & I have been trying to do lately.  We've been listening to great sermons by Paul Washer (Recovering Biblical Womanhood, Do You Really Desire God?), RC Sproul, John Piper, John McArthur.

We've watched Pilgram's Progress and a movie on Tyndale (translated the Bible into English & was burned at the stake for it) & Charles Spurgeon.

We know that we are not saved by doing these things but because Christ saved us how could we not want to honor Him?

Hopefully in the future we will go out to handout tracts and engage people in conversation yet.

5 Month Collages

Yay for turning 5 months old & for cute dresses

We had this outfit in 0-3 months & 6-9 Months so I had to do a then & now photo.

Significantly bigger snuggles now.

This weekend we visited my family at their camper & Zoe had her first "bite" of watermelon.  She really just sucked some juice out.  And no, I haven't actually started her on baby food yet.

A huge Help

After my surgery, I wasn't allowed to lift Zoe for 2 weeks.  It was awful for me in my heart, because when she'd cry, I couldn't just fix it.  God has created mamas' hearts to want to fix their baby's cry.

Although it was hard on me, it was so nice to have my family here to help.  My parents, sisters, nephews, my mom-in-love, a few friends and Aunt Sally helped a ton.  I'm so thankful  for their willingness to help during these times.

Aunt Sally spent 5 days with us.  She became Aunt Sally Mattress because she'd allow Zoe to nap on her. :)

Happy Father's Day (oh you know, just late)

It's been quite a while since I've blogged.  If you didn't know.  I was in the hospital for four days with pancreatitus and ended with having my gall bladder removed.  Thus the hiatus.  So over the next few days there is a lot of catching up to do.

The Sunday of Father's Day, we had both of our father's over as well as it being Aaron's first Father's Day.  We had turkey burgers, homemade fries & Ice Cream Cake!!! YUM It was supposed to have this photo on it, but they couldn't do it.

So we had this one instead but I loved it even still!!!

After everyone left we spent some time outside, which was nice since I couldn't move around so well still.

Aaron & Zoe playing together are so awesome.  I love seeing my husband as Zoe's dad.  It's one of my favorite parts of the day is when Aaron gets home, & Zoe follows him around until he is ready to sit down & play with her.  Their play is so much fun!!!

Happy Father's Day to all the Daddies out there!

Oh and just to see a peak of how they play together:
(Sorry it's sideways)

Memorial Day

On Saturday, we had a memorial day picnic at our church.  We were so excited that our friends Dan and Sandy could make it with their son, Benedict.  It was great to have 3 out of my husband's 4 college roommates together with their families (the 4th was at the hospital as their second child was born the day before).  It was so nice to be able to get together.

Zoe & Ben (and Robin from our youth group)

Gosh I love her! And she loves Ben

He's not so sure

The Daddies and their babies =D
My baby was ready for a nap

On Sunday after church we had a special visitor on her way home from the hospital:
The three baby girls at our church =D

I also got to spend some time with my side of our family that weekend as well. And then we spent some time with Aaron's dad as well on Monday as his birthday was on Tuesday.

What a great weekend!

Family Portraits

When Zoe was about 2 months old (I think), my mom had scheduled the whole family for family portraits.  We went to JC Penney to have them done.  I think that the photographer did a great job considering how many of us there were.  Here are some of my favorites:

Back Row: Tyler, 14, Kristin, Aaron, Jacob
Middle Row: Colton, 9, Colleen, Me, Zoe
Front: Ryan, 11

My sister Kristin, Aaron and I with our nephews

Aaron, Zoe and Me

Zoe with her aunts

Zoe with her cousins.  Tyler was THRILLED to hold Zoe and by thrilled I mean quite the opposite.

Loff my family

Colleen and her three boys

Aunt Kristin and her kids

Precious family photos.

3 months old!

I can't believe how quickly these last three months have flown by! Our little girl has always been strong but grows stronger every day! She is officially a "pre-sitter" as you'll see in the photos. She must also be going through a growth spurt because she's been up the last few nights every two hours eating.  Gotta grow big & strong!  She has learned to grab things other than my hair now and even likes her bear!

We visited Aunt Colleen and Zoe thought it was great to ride Izzy.  Izzy didn't think it was such a great idea.
Zoe has also learned to snuggle up to daddy in the mornings.  It's one of our favorite things! Daddy is smitten, I'm smitten and I'm pretty sure she's smitten with us as well!

Zoe and her bear are now friends (Thanks Aunt Barb, Tanya, Saundra, & Tracy!)

Rolling over is something she's been working on.  She can almost get onto her side now.  She turns her head pretty far back & kinda uses that as a pushing point.  However, Zoe does NOT like tummy time.  If I read to her though, it's tolerable.

The Joy of our lives!

Happy Three Months Zo-Zo!  We look forward to many more months with you.

(Now I'm off to change your diaper.)

Easter

When Aaron and I got married, we decided we would alternate Christmas and Thanksgiving between Pittsburgh (with my family) and Erie (with Aaron's).  We also decided that Easter was probably the other big holiday and that would be the one that we celebrated at our home.

This year we had Brandon over for Easter.  Since we just moved in 3 weeks ago we didn't have more people over, but hopefully next year we can invite both of our families here for Easter.  It will be crazy AND amazing.  Our place, although bigger, is still small =P.  But hey, our motto is "It's always an adventure with Aaron and Amanda Wood." (Although we have to change it now to fit in our little joy).

Taken a week before Easter.  And then it didn't fit a week later =P

And here she is snuggling up her Uncle Brandon!  So cute!!!

Hope you all had a very blessed Easter!

So thankful for serving our Risen Savior!

Happy 70th Birthday

Last weekend, we went to Aaron's Godfather's 70th Birthday Party.  He LOVES trains and John Deer tractors.  I think the decor was perfect for the event.

I just love the cake they had for him and the card box! So adorable!

Just love the hat he got!

Court, Aaron, me, Zoe, Mert, and Pops,  Even ZoZo has a smile on her face! Adorbs!

Happy Birthday Pops!

Visiting

is always so much fun.

Back in March we went to visit Aunt Sally and Uncle Jack.  They live about 30 minutes away, and Aunt Sally has seen our munchkin a couple of times but Uncle Jack had yet to meet her.  We thought that it would be important to remedy that!

Just take a peek at how adorable they both our with our little joy!
I love that they are both smiling, well Zoe was smiling.  My camera takes pictures too slowly to really ever catch the good smiles.

Just chilling with Uncle Jack.

We always enjoy the time spent with Aunt Sally and Uncle Jack and it has nothing to do with Uncle Jack being the best cook ever. . .oh wait, that might not be true.  But actually this weekend Aaron and Aunt Sally did all the cooking.  We had a wonderful time looking at old photo albums with Aunt Sal.  My family came to visit while we were there which was awesome.  My dad and Uncle Jack are both outdoorsmen and can talk about hunting and fishing!  We would love to have our families spend even more time together in the future.  I unfortunately didn't take any pictures when my family got there.

And the best part, DaDa played with Zoe while MaMa got to take a nap.  Aunt Sally and Uncle Jack were figuring out all the bells and whistles on her new car.  Ah 45 minutes of extra sleep plus daddy getting some much needed alone time with ZoZo = one happy mama.

Then that night we went to see Robin, our sole youth group attendee, in her high school musical, Annie.  Zoe slept through the whole first act (AMAZING) then I fed her and daddy got to change that diaper. . . Oh it was gross, he got to change her because I had to go wash my hands immediately.  So gross. Then Zoe and I watched the first 20 minutes of Act 2 and when she started to fuss we went outside.  No big deal though we could still hear it!  They did a pretty good job! Go Robin!

Sorry it's been so long since I've blogged.  It's been super crazy here lately but I'm so thankful I got some blogging in! YAY!

She loves him

I never realized how much my dad loved holding babies until I had my daughter.
I think it's safe to say she loves him too!

Look at how cutely she put him to sleep!

Protective much??? (I think it's adorable by the way)

Back when she was only a week old.

Staring at her

It's so cute how much PapPap loves his little girl!

Turning 2 Months is fun!

Zoe turned 2 months old this week!  She has gotten so big and so much fun!  Just check out this video!  (feel free to ignore my voice.)

She also met her cousins for the first time this past weekend, as well as her great-grandpa & great-uncle.
At first Pap was a bit afraid of breaking Zoe.

Nan wasn't at all apprehensive.

Four Generations.  Great grampa held her but Pap was keeping his eye on her.

Great Uncle Chuck saw Zoe for the first time.

Cousin Colton loved holding Zoe.

The birthday boy held her too!

Even Tyler held her eventually.

Jacob gave her back right after this because she started fussing.

Happy 2 Months ZoZo!

P.S. We moved 2 weeks ago and aren't quite settled in yet, thus the lack of posting lately.
